Italia 49

Italia 49 is an analogue photo series that I took during my travels on the remote Aeolian Islands.

The Aeolian Islands are a far off volcanic archipelago north of Sicily. Tourism was first enthused in the 50s after the film Stromboli starring Ingrid Bergman was released. When visiting the islands, it felt like travelling back in time, as the overall life on the islands still seems to remain in the 20th century.

My goal was to capture the essence of isolated island life and the overall atmosphere on the Aeolian islands.

Challenge

According to the historical background and the overall atmosphere on the islands, I decided to only use my old Canon A-1 film camera.

A selection of the taken photographs follows.
